MEET JAN

Representative Jan Jones is a passionate advocate for expanding educational opportunities in Georgia to enhance job prospects, from Pre-K through college and career readiness. Committed to limited government, she has authored key legislation to increase homestead exemptions, ensuring affordable homeownership despite rising property values. Notably, she played a pivotal role in implementing a property tax reassessment “freeze” in Fulton County, stabilizing taxes for long-term homeowners. Jan also strongly supported a full homestead school exemption in 2024 for Cherokee County seniors.

As Speaker Pro Tempore, the second-highest position in the Georgia House of Representatives, Jan serves House District 47, covering parts of North Fulton and Cherokee County. She has authored legislation to enhance local control, transparency, and accountability in government, including recent efforts to expand Pre-K accessibility with additional lottery funding.

Officially named by the Mayor and Council as the “Mother of Milton," Jan was instrumental in creating the city of Milton and leading the successful 2006 cityhood referendum. Her work consistently reflects a commitment to bring the government closer to the people.

Born in Warner Robins, Jan and her husband, Kalin, have lived in Milton for 25 years. Their four children graduated from Milton High School. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Georgia and an M.B.A. in Finance from Georgia State University. She and Kalin worship at North Point Community Church.
